Joy Avenue Food Forest Work Party Saturday, November 1 – 11 am to 1 pm

When: Saturday, November 1, 2025 – 11 am to 1 pm. Even if you can only spare 30 minutes, we could use your help. Please sign up here. You’re welcome to just drop by, and it would be helpful to us to know how many folks plan to join in the fun.

Where: The pathway, park and food forest that links Bethel to Tullis streets along the Joy Avenue right-of-way located in the 1600 block of Bethel Street NE about 1.5 blocks north of the SF Bakery.

What: At this work party, we’ll be preparing the Joy Food Forest (JFF) for the winter by laying down chips, amending the soil, adding some new native plants to the forest, and planting a beautiful new hedgerow to provide some privacy for our neighbors.

What to bring: Wear sturdy shoes, dress for the weather, and please bring a pitchfork, shovel or rake, a hori hori knife or spade, work gloves, and a wheelbarrow (if you can) to the work party. If you don’t have tools or work gloves, we’ll have some available for you to use.

Who: You! – If you plan to come, please invite a friend or two to join you. And whether you can join us or not, please help spread the word to your friends and on social media. As a bonus, those who join the work party will receive, if you didn’t already pick one up at the Pocket Park party, a free copy of Tom Boucher’s psychogeographic map celebrating what makes NE Olympia such a wonderful and unique place to live.

We look forward to seeing you in the forest on November 1!

Thank you everyone who renewed or became a new NENA member this year!  What we love about our neighborhood didn’t just happen. It required support from neighbors like you. For those who haven’t joined the team yet this year, you can find out how to nourish your neighborhood here.
